Media Mania Films Ltd. was formed in Hungary in 1998 as an independent production company, with the aim of making quality documentary and fiction programs. The managing director of the company is award-winning producer/director Eszter Nordin, with a track-record in documentaries and television drama. She brought her experience in British television to make creative, internationally acknowledged productions, without the restrictions of being part of a large organization. Films produced by Media Mania Films have been supported mainly by the major public film funds and Hungarian national television broadcasters.
Eszter Nordin started her career at BBC Television in London as an Assistant Director in Studio management and Drama departments before being trained internally as a Director. She left the BBC in 1980 to pursue a career as a freelance director both in documentaries and drama series. She created a stir with her documentary ”Soho After Dark” which she made for the BBC. Her long-term documentary during the Liverpool 8 riots gave her and her crew a unique access to the rioters.She worked on “Brookside” a Channel 4 continuous drama soap series for two and a half years, directing 46 episodes. She decided to return to her native Hungary after the fall of communism, eventually forming Media Mania Films, producing and directing projects close to her heart. She prefers personal, observational documentaries filming sometimes for several months, even years on projects. ”Parents with Limits” was filmed over 7 years and a sequel is currently in the post-production stage. Her films have all been broadcast on national television in Hungary and abroad, and appeared at numerous film festivals. Her awards include a Special Mention at FIPA for her creative documentary ”Tabu”.
